Occupational Standards
National Occupational Standards (NOS) describe functions, standards of performance and knowledge or understanding of a job role and specify the standards of performance an individual must achieve when carrying out a function in the workplace.
A set of NOS, aligned to a certain job role along with their NSQF level form a “Qualification Pack (QP)”. A Qualification Pack (QP) contains a set of skills, along with educational qualification, training & experience to perform a particular job role and is assigned a unique code. For example, The QP code of Housekeeper cum Cook is DWC/Q0101.
Stages in development of NOS
- Stage-1. Occupational Mapping : Identify key stakeholders in the Domestic Workers sector
- Stage-2. Functional Analysis: Analyze the activities individuals are expected to do as part of their job and identify outcomes that these individuals should achieve.
- Stage-3. Development of NOS: Create performance criteria to carry out a function in the workplace
- Stage-4. Approval of NOS: It will be validated by small, medium and large industry players (minimum 10 employers per category), and then by Qualification Ratification Committee (QRC) at NSDC.
- Stage-5. Supporting the Implementation of NOS: : All key stakeholders will drive the validation and implementation of NOS.
- Stage-6. Maintain relevance and currency of NOS: It will be developed taking into account current industry requirements. Periodic review will be done to maintain currency of occupational standard.
